Well, it was working well yesterday.

Today, it powers on, the speed display lights up and the power relay engages when selecting forward or reverse but the motor doesn’t start.

So far I have checked both fuses, the 2 safety interlocks, the emergency cut-off switch, the speed control pot. and a visual check of the 2 circuit boards. All looks good, before i dismantle it any further and poke around with my multi-meter does anyone have experience of this issue and what it might be.

I haven’t checked the motor brushes yet as that needs more dismantling to get to. (But manually turning the chuck doesn’t make the motor kick in at all so i’m suspecting it’s not worn brushes)

      Thanks In advance.

      Dave

When the same thing happened on mine, I contacted Chester who told me that the board needed to be replaced. Bought the new board, fitted it, nothing happened. I was told by an electrician friend to hoover the motor, refitted the motor, replaced the dodgy looking fuse holders.

Success! I now have a spare control board.

          Hi Deniso,

I think it’s that main board to, some slight tapping with a rubber hammer on its enclosure brought the motor back to life, so I removed it hoping to find a bad connection or dry joint. I did re-crimp one of the wires that seemed loose but the back of the circuit is bonded to the heatsink so I can’t check for dry joints without probably damaging it.

Anyway since re-assembling it all and after its tap with the rubber hammer its still running fine.

How much was your new board off Chester ?

          Thanks

          Dave

If it does it again as long as the board has not been lacquered a dry joint will often show up as a duller grey than good shiny ones

Yes but you can’t get to the back of the PCB to have a look as its bonded to some plastic sheet spacer, against the heatsink, that’s the size of the PCB.

To seperate them would damage the PCB.

I can’t remember the full price, but I think it was around £85!
