      Hi Peter

That”s a remarkable piece of work  – it”s my understanding that such models are used to ”prove” alterations to the plant before starting work for real?

I imagine someone like the Science Museum or one of the big regional technical museums would be interested.

If all else fails, it looks like the sort of thing Gerry Anderson used to blow up in Thunderbirds – perhaps a film company would be interested – cheaper than CGI?

Having worked in the Petro-Chemical industry for 20 years now as a Mechanical Engineer, I can verify the use of scalled models use to be used for the design and layout of new Units. The advent of computers and ACAD have eliminated the practice and the majority of the model builders have long ago retired. The models were constructed of plastic and there may still be companies making the parts. Several of the refineries around here use to have the models in their lobbies but have since destroyed them. When I was a young engineer I use to love to look at all the detail and then not the plant to compare it to the model. Now days all the new construction is done with 3D computer models.

A very strange thing here; I think it is not the first time I see this:

Opening this thread I see the first posting by Stub Mandrel, starting with

            >Hi Peter

That”s a remarkable piece of work – it”s my understanding that such models are used to ”prove” alterations to the plant before starting work for real? <

Nothing from Peter, no link, no picture, nada.

Do you (Stub) answer to imaginary threads, or do I overlook something obvious???

I know this forum software (as former software developer I would rather prefer to name it otherwise) has ‘some’ quirks…

            Greetings, Hansrudolf

I have a hypothesis…you may have noticed that when you look at someone album, it gives you the opportunity to make a comment. So presumably when you do, it goes ahead and creates a new comment thread, without actually providing any link back to show what the original picture being commented on was.

Although I do rather like Wheeltappers Pratchettesque suggestion.

Hi Hansrudolf, Roy and John, I though the same things, but I couldn’t find any pics.

                  Regards Nick.

I commented on a photo. Usually when you do that the system creates a thread with the photo at the top.
Maybe Peter took down his picture and broke the connection?

I’m not quite off wth the fairies yet!
