Cheapest supplier of large peices of 6802 aluminium

Been looking for some 6802 aluminium and 7068 at the present suppliers I have looked at have been expensive.

I need either 12" diameter x 4"+ or 10" x 12" x 4"+ and require 2 pieces of which ever size I can get.

At times have found big lumps at auto jumbles but that's hit or miss to find a suitable size.

Anybody know of any outlets or offcut suppliers that are a reasonable price.

I might just have to bite the bullet and pay from main suppliers but it's amazing what model engineers have tucked away.

I would have been blasting off the hydro this weekend but a leg problem has curtailed that and been told to keep out of the workshop for a while.

So have been sat at the PC doing CAD for a possible future project plus material hunting and costs have been a priority until I can start twiddling machine knobs again.

Windy, I wish you every success in finding these ally lumps for a good price (and good wishes for your leg problem also…)

Should you happen to get a good offer for some round material 12" / 300 mm in say 40-60 mm thickness, I would be interested, even if the postage would be a bit expensive. But to be honest I did not look around what this would cost locally, as it is not for an immediate project..

I'm in awe what you achieve with your flash steamer!

That's a fairly large chunk of aluminium, new is probably going to be £250.00 ish for the 2 pieces from the likes of aluminium warehouse. Best of luck finding that sort of size as an off cut. Biggest piece I have is 6" diameter.

Thyssen Metals (UK) are a good source for motor sport users so may well provide what you seek. I keep an eye on my local non ferrous scrappy, he often gets some interesting aerospace grade materials.

aka Metalfast, are who I use for aluminium. They keep part lengths of bar and odd bits of plate in stock. So might be worth a call and asking what they have on the shelf, especially if you're not worried about the odd gouge. From their point of view they can get more than scrap value, and you get less than new price. I bought a largish (600mm square) piece of plate to make my traction engine wheels at an advantagous price because it had a couple of gouges in the surface. When they used to be at Huntingdon I often collected my order, and had a rummage through the scrap bin; can't do that now they've closed the Huntingdon unit.
