For the time being at least, the changes seem to have been delayed, I’ll not post a preview, as it could get quickly outdated and be misleading

        On Plasma Said:

I bid on an item from a private seller near my home.

Mine was the only bid and I won.

I asked if I could collect it rather than pay 15 quid postage.

The seller didn’t reply and just cancelled the sale saying I requested it.

Seller was using inflated postage to boost profit on the sale. Happens a lot. You just need to factor in if the cost plus P+P is still a bargain or not.

Still a crappy way to do business. 😞

        Paul.

Back in the day sellers used to whack on massive postage and sell the item cheaply to pay less charges but then eBay cottoned on to that practice and charged a fee for both item plus postage, now a private seller doesn’t pay any charges, can’t see that lasting for long.

The change for the private seller going forward is that they only receive payment after the buyer has confirmed receipt or tracking confirmed delivery, obviously tracked postage is expensive. As Paul says you need to factor in all costs but that goes for anything you buy whether online or a physical purchase.

I expect that all ebay users will receive something similar … but just in case

            An eMail today informs me:

As part of our latest update, eBay app versions 6.191 and older (which are compatible with operating systems earlier than iOS 16 and Android 10) are no longer supported.

I’ve noticed over the past few days that the new rules for purchases from private sellers seem to be gradually getting phased in.
e.g. an item which likely had a starting price from the seller of £20, now displays to the buyer for a slightly higher figure, incorporating the transferred fees.

Buyer still seems to see the price they will actually pay when they get to the checkout, so nothing hidden from the buyer.

                Hi

I sell small quantities of woodturning cutters on Ebay for £1-£4 and the changes have killed off my sales. The new buyer fee is 4% + 75p for each different item. A customer bought 3 items for £9 + post. The buyer fee on top was £2.51 so the customer paid £11.51 + post. The buyer doesn’t see my original price of a listing, just the higher price that does not mention the protection fee.

As for post. Everything goes large letter. Buying online gives a tracking code. It’s not true tracking but just “delivered” track. That doesn’t work because the postman doesn’t scan the letter. I now have to wait 2 weeks for the money

                regards

                Steve

Gumtree is an alternative to ebay in Australia and I think they are in the UK also.

No commission charges if you sell via Gumtree.
