I have a Centec 2B it don't look to good but beyond the look of it its a really good mill little backlash and so on, the reversing switch does not work that's a pain as i have the vertical quill as well as the horizontal, the main motor only goes when I help it by pulling the drive belt, the other motor is ok, it's three phase and I run it through a converter, I can take the motor and have it rewound I think, but the question is how difficult would it be to convert it to 240volt, the main motor seams easy enough to do but its the feed motor that looks like it my be the difficult one to change has any one done this, if so how hard was it to do.

          Hi Al,
When you say you run it through a converter do you mean an inverter, a static converter using capacitors or a rotary converter using a three phase motor and capacitors. If it is a static converter the need to help it to start could indicate that the value of the capacitors is wrong to match the motor. The fact that you say the reversing switch is faulty could indicate that only two of the three contacts are working which would mean that the motor is only being fed with one phase. If this is the case the motor would not start by itself. I think you need to verify that the fault is caused by the motor before spending money to have it rewound.

Hi Les it's an inverter I bought last year, I think it 3hp so the problem does seam to be the motor, the other one works fine, when you switch the reversing switch it only works one way.

              Hi Al,
If I had the problem I would want to eliminate the reversing switch before having the motor rewound.

If it is running on an inverter, why is a reversing switch being used rather than controlling the inverter?

Will find out what the inverter is and let you know.

                    Hi Al,
Another thought. Are you sure the motor is strapped for the correct voltage to match the inverter output ? Most (But not all.) inverters give 230 volt three phase output but the mains is about 415 volts between phases.

                    Les.
