Good morning, I’m new to the site so please be gentle.
I’m building a Centec 2B from parts bought, but am at the stage that I need the all important main vertical body/gearbox section…does anyone have one or know of one for sale at a reasonable Price?

Parts I have so far: base, rear belt guard, knee, Knee raiser thingy, saddle, table, over arm & support for horizontal milling, all levers, gibbs, stops etc etc.

I’m making an X-axis lead screw and have made a pattern and cast a batch of half nut castings.
I can’t seem to upload a photo at the moment, but will try late.
      kind regards

      Neil

Re the half-nuts – my 2B has been refitted with a whole feed-screw nut, fitted at the right side of the saddle. No rapid traverse but that does not worry me (I just rewind at full speed with the power feed).

The column/gearbox assembly will not be cheap, if you can find one. The Mklll vertical head is the other part you would need – to gain maximum advantage with your Centec mill.

I believe the 2A gearbox internals may be the same as those of the B.  Perhaps someone else can can confirm, or otherwise?

I think the 2A gearbox internals are the same, but the main vertical casting that house them is shorter than the 2B from what I understand, It’s a shame, as there’s a 2A one on eBay at the moment.
Although a vertical milling attachment would be on my list, it’s not a huge priority as I have a Warco.

              Neil,

You're not specific about the model you have, but have a look in the for sales panel on the right. There's a Centec 2B horizontal mill for spares up for £100.

              John

Welcome to the forum Neil. Posting photos is a little unusual but see the instructions here. Not difficult when you know how.

You can also post a wanted ad in the classified section. It's free, and won't roll off the front page as quickly as ordinary posts do.

Afternoon John. My “machine” is a 2B. I think the one for sale at £100 is a model 2, which is a bit smaller than the 2B.

Hi Neil, there's a guy on Ebay who occasionally breaks Centecs.

Hi, Neil. I recently did the same thing but was lucky enough to find the 2b column in my pile of bits. I only had to find some small parts like the arbor and overarm support. I'm on the lookout for the cabinet to stand it on as I ended up mounting mine on a substantial workbench. I hope you find the column.
The 2A column is definitely smaller than the 2b – I got one when I got the 2b so I've seen them side by side. The knee is also less substantial and the table is smaller.
Regarding your new leadscrew, are you cutting it to the original thread or using something more convenient. I ask as I was curious as to whether you'd cut your full-nut with the original square thread or perhaps gone with an ACME thread. I'm planning ahead for the day my half nut dies.

Hi all, wonder if anyone can help please. I have a Centec 2b engineering milling machine, is there anybody out that can give me any idea of where I can get a concertina for the central drive to the machine, my one has broken ahh!

if anyone can help, will be great

                              thank you,

Hi Neil have you got the manual? If not message me with your e, I think I saw the whole machine on eBay for£ 350, but have seen columns occasionally on there as well. I am sure if you wait patiently, parts come along…I'll keep a eye out!

                                Regards vic

I'm not really sure what you mean, but if you're referring to the protector for the main Z axis screw, then this is my solution, using a car shock absorber gaiter, though a motorcycle fork gaited would do just as well.
It needs a wider diameter at the bottom, so I used an old tin leftover from some Christmas snacks; cashew nuts I think.
Three appropriate jubilee clips were also used to hold the whole assembly together and in place.
