      These are for lapping watch components, not the faceplate of the lathe … but the principle is the same.

            I always thought of 'snailing' as decorative rather than technical; but in horology, things do have a tendency to morph from one to the other.

              There are two different lengths of 8mm collets in use and two different threads. I purchased a drawbar from China that has metric threads in one end and imperial on the other. The handwheel is held by a setscrew so I can adjust for the length of collet. That allows me to use 4 different flavors of collet in my lathe.

              A lot of watchmaker tooling is available from Chinese sources on eBay.
