The US Postal Service used to be reasonable, I bought a spare amp for my 69 jukebox and the cost was OK.

Then the US post stopped exporting, now it's run privately they can charge what they like.

BTW I have no idea how PRC is able to send stuff halfway round the world and sell it on Ebay delivered to me <£2

Actually, the answer is quite simple, it is subsidised by Royal Mail to the UK or by Canada Post to Canada, etc. etc.

This is thanks to the UPU (Universal Postal Union) that has designated China as "undeveloped" and should therefore be subsidised.

This takes the form of vastly reduced "terminal dues", which is the amount payable to the receiving Post Office for actually delivering the package.

In many cases, local businesses are disadvantaged by much higher delivery costs making it difficult for them to compete with products shipped from China. As a result, a year or so back, the US was threatening to leave the UPU if the Chinese subsidy was not withdrawn – I am not sure what the eventual outcome was.

Sorry, buddy, I didn't realise that you had an embargo on stuff from 'merca. Remind me to button my lip, next time I try and offer advice.

No offence meant, but you perhaps dont realise the tremendous cost of postage from the states to the UK plus states taxes on top. This could take a $10 item + $20 post + $10 taxes. It makes the whole prospect of trade completely unrealistic from merca which is a pity, hope it will change dropping state taxes on export and changing US post monopoly

None taken. Yes I do understand about postal costs. Living in Australia means that just about everything comes from somewhere else. Some time ago I wanted to buy some Al Alloy 1/2" dia x 24" long 2024. The material cost US24 and the postage from the USA was US$120 . Sometimes there are costs that just have to be absorbed so we can play with our toys. I prefer to look at the total cost and if I'm prepared for that, just stop whinging and get on with it.
