Capstan Lathe

I’m not sure where to post this – so apologies if I’ve erred.

Some time ago I purchased a WW2 Myford ML4 or 5 small capstan lathe.

I originally intended to put it to use, but, as I’m sure many will understand, too many projects and too little life left!!

It’s taking up space in the machine shop (aka garage!)

This is the model – the ML5. This is not a photo of my actual lathe – that’s rather buried in my garage – but if someone is actually interested I will pull it out and photograph it.

It is a bench machine without a stand, but is very similar to this one. Most of the equipment illustrated is there, though it doesn’t have tools on the capstan.

If you are interested, let me know. Otherwise I’m thinking of approaching a science museum to see if one is interested.

It might have actually been me that was posting about it in 2023, I did in the end get a myford one, a bit different to what you have there, it was the c7 model.

I can attest to how useful and satisfying they are to use, once you go through the thing of stripping down, cleaning and adjusting needed when you buy any old machine. It has made my life a lot easier, if I had seen this post when I was in the market for one I would be asking to buy it.
