I want to make a steel fabrication to simulate a casting is it practical to machine parts in EN1A and Silver solder them together ?

or is there a method more normaly used?

Should not be a problem. If its a large item then use Tenacity No5 Flux as it will not get exhausted by the heat.

Have a look at my Hit & Miss engine in this album the base & body are all steel fabrications. As are these brackets and this

Welding and brazing are also other options as this gives a larger fillet to internal corners that can be ground to a nice cast look

Silver soldering en1a will be fine, with the correct flux etc.  If you are going to weld then use EN3A. EN1A is for easy machining etc.  When welded the the interface will not neccessarily be homogenous.  There is a good chance of cracking.
