Hi. I'm just wondering if anyone has looked into buying a cutting disc for aluminium, or tried a few products and is in a position to recommend a particular brand/model?

I'm limited at the moment to a size of 210,/30

I figure that buying a disc by Milwaukee at £66.04 (Ex VAT) is bound to produce good results and last, but it's rsather expensive. I'm thinking about spending £30 tops and less if possible. Thanks. Rich

Do you mean a saw blade rather than an abrasive disc as your sizes would suggest a saw blade.

I think the Project Binky boys on YouTube use an ordinary grinding/cutting disc (I appreciate AA is a different proposition from steel).

Axminster have cutting discs in their sale – cheap enough to try, perhaps.

You can get abrasive discs for aluminium but the sizes quoted 210dia and 30 bore suggest a chop saw needing a negative rake blade, price is also in teh blade bracket.

Tooth count would depend to some extent on whether box section or solid bar being cut.

I mean a saw blade. Rich

EDIT: Also thinking about modifying my machine to take saw blades with 25.4mm bore.

I have an Evolution Rage3 that is intended for metal cutting. The primary fratures of the blade are negative rake and a depth of cut limiter ahead of each tooth. I wanted to put a fine tooth wood cutting blade on the saw. The blade was a 5/8 bore and the saw has a 1" arbor. I set the wood cutting blade on 1-2-3 blocks and clamped it down. I indicated on the center hole and started boring until I got to 1".

Triple chip saw blades are great for Ali. Actually almost any wood cutting blade works.

If you areusing an abrasive disc on aluminum select silicon carbide abrasive, commonly used in concrete. The AO discs have strong grains that don't fracture and break away hence the load up and quit cutting Ali. SiC blades have very sharp grains that are brittle and break down in use. That keeps fresh abrasive exposed.
