Can anyone identify this please

Totally new to steam and picked up this engine. There does not appear to be any makers marks to go on. The piston size is approx 1 1/2" and the boiler 4" and about 10" long. Been engineered to run on gas I can tell that much, I have used compressed air and it seems to runs ok.

Any help would be appreciated

It looks very similar to, but not quite the same as a Stuart Turner s50 – perhaps someone's own interpretation of the design, or an earlier version?

Don't recognise it, though it's a common Horizontal Engine layout in full-size and models. I guess it's commercial rather than home made or a kit build. (A superior toy, better than Mamod, but not an Exhibition piece!)

There may be something missing, or incorrectly assembled, The piston rod and crank end coupling should be constrained by the cross-slide rails, marked in GREEN:

The piston bearing highlighted in RED wears badly ff the coupling is allowed to flex as the engine runs. Possibly your coupling is guided underneath and the top-view picture hides it?

This rough-finished Pottymill engine shows the coupling sliding on pads between four cross-slide rails:

I think it might be ok. The crosshead slidebar bolts are screwed right down and there's an oil hole in the top of the bars. I wonder if the crosshead flange itself is like a 'T'-slider beneath the slidebars we can see. There seem to be spacers beneath them.

Cannot find anything Clarksons on the net that looks like this.

I have been taking it apart to clean it and can say it was originally a burgundy colour with a gold pin stripe which can still be seen on the fly wheel and also underneath the boiler. Not sure if that is relevant in trying to identify it?

Don't think it's Clarkson as they tended to use trunk guides, not from the Bolton or Stevens model Dockyard ranges either but a nice engine.
