Struggling to find a straight edge so I can look at scrapping in one of my machines – its about time it was attended to and want to make a start.

Can’t find anything new or let alone used from the usual sources.

Was considering making my own from a bit of 75x75mm 12mm thick angle I have in stock – would that work or would I be best off with the correct Camel back ?

I can have a look in the two used tool dealers in Sheffield if you like, they do have some weird stuff. How long do you need it.

I recently mentioned HR Lamb to someone on here who was seeking a straight edge, not sure if it was the OP or not.

            I’ve just been very confused;
Clicked on “Me.”‘s profile to look for recent postings, to see if it was the same person.
The forum opened the profile for me; note the lower case, that’s me as in peak4, not “Me.” as in their profile.
It happens repeatedly, but other profiles from the same page load OK.

Not sure where “Me.” lives, as I can’t view their profile, but I do have an 18″x3″, square edged, camelback in Buxton, which probably still needs scraping in; it has been machined. I bought it from a micrometer repair/calibration business clearance, where it had been used as some sort of test bed, so it has a few tapped holes in it.
I could loan it, but would want it back eventually.

            Bug has been reported.

              Hi Bill

Sorry for my user name…. Ive used the same “Me” user name on lots of other sites and it does make for some confusion, and it does make some laugh when we have a conversation which includes me as in you not me…. like in your post… LOL

I am in Jersey, Channel Islands for reference.

I would also like to own my own as eventually most of my machines would need some work to them.

Will check out the HR lamb site see what they have.

Hi Plasma – yes please or a web address for them would be helpful/

No need to apologise for any confusion; what I really don’t understand is why the actual forum software got confused.

Right click on your user name, and copy link address; paste into notepad, reveals the possible problem.
I’ve no wish to derail your thread further, but I wonder what happens if other users try the same.

I was going to report my own post, to assist forum back office with the problem, but nothing appropriate in the drop down menu

If you’ve set a profile, you may wish to report it yourself, as there’s a possibility no-one can access it.

The cheapest new straight edge you can buy is not a camel back but a Maune, which is likely to be straighter than a length of angle iron could be made. Rotagrip have some nice Kinex straight edges also.

I could not find a ‘used’ Camel Back for love nor money when I was looking about 18 months or so ago so I bought a new one from Clive Lamb – LambCo.

Lovely bit of kit, with 1 edge a 45 degh bevel and comes planed ready for scraping. The 20″ I bought was £220 if memory serves, Clive was not very happy as the foundry had really hiked the prices due to energy costs hence the price. Good service though.

Clive Lamb does straight edges in batches so he may or may not have stock. He told me recently that he’s looking to pack up shop due to rising costs so get in there sooner rather than later. His Instagram says that he is doing a final batch of his beautiful cast iron precision squares so maybe it’s true.

That red one is my one supplied by Lambco than scraped and painted by myself. They are high quality pieces for finishing but as I said, probably not for much longer.

I was looking to try and work out how much they cost roughly, but he’s not giving out any clues.
Website, Instagram & Facebook accounts between them are a nightmare to try and get the correct details for either the firm or the products. I looked to but one previously and didn’t get any reply to my queries, but no idea if I even used a current email address.
His last post, about 3 hours ago apparently according to Instagram, say’s he’s not planning to do any more.

                                              “actually I’ve decided not to”

I have an untouched 500mm camelback casting that I’m now unlikely to need “Me.”  I’m willing to sell it for what i paid for it when ‘new’ (plus postage) which will be less then they cost now I would suspect. It’s been ‘aging’ slowly under my bench for a little while – like a good wine   🙂

Please PM me if you are interested, as I can’t seem to contact you directly.

                                                Regards,
