If I didn’t have too many of the things already (4), I would grab this gem in a flash.

      Ebay no. 297058026557

On the bright side, it arrived largely undamaged, though I have the thumbscew for the binocular eyepiece to either straighten or re-make.

It came with a pair of 10x eyepieces as expected, and four objectives, with a spare blanked off hole.
        5/0.15 , 10/0.25 , 40/0.7 & 100/1.3 oil all marked MET.

It might be useful to find a way to lower the magnification.
I was wondering about a single magnification objective, or a pair of 4x magnification eyepieces, if I can find any.
My other two binocular dissecting microscopes both sport 10x eyepieces, with paired objectives (0.7 through to 2), so I can’t try swapping them over.

I’ve a couple of single eyepieces of 6 & 7.5 magnification, though one of those gives a very narrow field of view.

Anyone any thoughts for someone with very little experience in this field?

I also have a single fairly cheap nasty looking objective marked 4/0.1 160/- but can’t get that one to focus at all, even well above the stage.

Also, any useful links to documentation on inverted microscopes please?

        Bill

Sounds like it was a very good buy, Bill

… I was very tempted myself.

Give me a few days … I may have some information.

            Good morning, Bill

This is one of the documents I was thinking about:

            http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/artmay18/pg-Vickers-Patholux.pdf#search=%22baker%20inverted%22

            … should get you started

            .

Edit: __ and here is t’other:

Nice to hear that the microscope has a new home, you should be able to get some X5 eyepieces and if the originals are non standard, there are ways of adapting them.

Find out whether the existing objectives are parfocal and measure the distance below the top plate when focussed on something flat. I bought a 2X 0.05 objective RMS size, 20.2mm diameter threads, and 1X objectives exist, although they are not epi or Met but biological. At that low power it might not make much difference. The 2X has a parfocal extender to give a close match with the others on the sextuple turret, 2 – 4 – 10 – 20 – 40 – 60 biological.

While I originally was scanning ebay for inverted microscopes another one was listed at about £20 more. Still there.

Back in the 60’s when I was in electroplating, our lab had an inverted microscope, monocular eyepiece plus a 35mm camera dedicated camera body with a circular top which could be moved in any direction by hand, it was sitting on a film of grease. We used it mostly to observe sections cut through printed circuit boards that I used to through hole plate, a new thing back then. We also made a double layer prototype, rather crude by todays multitude of circuit boards. That is why I regularly look for one like it as my memory is not good enough to remember it’s make.

                Thanks for the assistance folks.
Not had much time to play yet, other than replacing a thumb screw on the binocular head, a new on/off toggle switch, and cleaning it a bit.
I can’t see me using the oil objective, so currently a couple of spare turret spaces.

I’ll keep my eyes open for a pair of lower powered (complan??) eyepieces; I now have 3 sets of 10x, a single 6x and a 7.5x off my measuring micrometer scope.

I would look for a 20X epi or MET objective and a 3X MET. I just bought a 100 na0.9 MET Vickers because the 100 na1.25 MET oil Vickers would be too messy to use.
