Wonder how many 'Prised collections' have ended down the local tip/recycling centre on the demise of their owners? Sadly, in many cases, some information drops into obscurity, never to be seen again UNLESS some 'Squirrel' has managed to rescue such.

Over the last ten years and I offer no excuse OR apologies for reprocessing more than 4K Model Aircraft/Boats and engineering plans FREELY and deposited on some FREE download sites, unlike the fleebuy thieves. Mentioned before on this site, (Oh for an efficient 'Search' facility), The late Sir John asked some of us if we would be prepared to scan, FOR FREE, MEW. My 80 original and fully paid for mags via W.H.S. take up about 2ft. (600mm) on my shelves. Despite an affirmative answer from ALL of us, this was declined by the 'Accountants'. Given the chance of a profit to be made,, said accountants decided to get a 'Proffesional' company to do it and what a pigs ear that turned out to be. Out of sequence/missing pages,plans etc.. Later, I was 'gifted' a 130mm dia. plastic disk containing 165 issues. For Holiday reading, which has gone to sunnier climes with me OR is used as a standard reference?

I think it is perhaps a result of software many used booksellers use to automatically list and price their stock on the net, using "bots" that crawl the net and find existing prices and then up them a little bit. After some time of this, prices artificially creep up. And maybe some unscrupulous dealers deliberately list books at silly prices so the bots automatically list their competitors books at high prices and then they can drop theirs and give someone " a bargain".

That's my thinking too. I also think there are people who are listing books available at the library, which they then steal when someone wants to buy it from them.

I find it easier to use a physical book if it is frequently used for reference. It is easier to use a book if comparing things whilst looking at numbers. Conversely I prefer to read fiction as ebooks, I don’t need a library full of past reading that only end being passed along via local book tables and in the end going to the tip.

Do people remember a bookseller chain called Bargain Books who sold off publishers remainders a few years ago.
Having a browse one day I noticed on the shelf, almost every title of the Workshop Practice series. Persumably being remaindered off when published by MAP. Prices for each book varied between 10p and 15p!I I staggered up to the cashier with my haul, about 15 inches high, who totted up the prices and then totted up again and then a third time and then duly announced the total was £4 and a few pence! As I left the shop, she said you have got a bargain there, my reply being "You do call your self Bargain Books".
I was well pleased with my haul but do wonder what happens to author's royalties when books are remaindered off.

Authors are sometimes offered a final lump sum for their book in lieu of any future royalties. Your book does not have to be remaindered off for this offer to be made. The author's entitlement to ongoing payments under the Public Lending Right will remain regardless of whether the lump sum option was chosen.

For an author there is one thing worse than having your book remaindered and that is to have it pulped. Somehow the publisher still makes money when books are pulped, In fact some publishers have used pulping of novels as a business model. Don't ask me how they can make money, I have no idea.
