I have a Bullfinch Blowtorch that I use for generally heating stuff up and so on in the workshop. It is great, much better than trying to run one of those little canister type torches.

However I have only one nozzle for it, the 1230 though mine is the "older" type and well used now. I am considering buying a second nozzle for silver soldering and generally work of a more localised, precise type nature.

Does anyone have any experience of the 1472 burner or have any experience of the smaller burners?

Hi Graham,

Bought my "Bullfinch" as a set from BOC on special offer. Torch and 1472, 1220 1240 and 1260 nozzles.

The two I mostly use are the 1472 for small / fine work and the 1220 or 1240 for a bit more heat. The 1260 is for heating the shed on a cold day.

Hi Graham,

I have 4 Bullfinch burners the standard 1230 sound as old/used as yours is. The 'standard' 1230 puts out 4.5kw, the large 1250 – 12.6kw, the very small 1470 – 0.32kw and the 1472 you are looking at only 0.75kw.

So where does all this lead; the 1472 is quite a small burner compared to the 1230 and the 1470 tiny. The difference in heat output between the 1230 and 1472 is considerable.

I've invested in some Sievert Cyclone burners which I now use for silver soldering, they are not supposed to blow out so easily in confined spaces, the smaller 19mm one puts out 3.1kw. the larger 25mm – 10.3kw, enough I hope, for the eventual boiler making which is still to get going. I think it's a winter project plus I need to sort out the oversight by a boiler inspector!

All the data shown above came from a spreadsheet I compiled from the Internet in order to compare burners.

All the while, the Bullfinch kit gathers more dust.

Thanks for that Barry, as I said I was thinking about the 1472 but that sort of seals the deal for me. There is a BOC place not too far away so I will call in if I get a chance, they don't seem to be all that expensive – around the £12ish mark – online but I like to buy locally if I can.
