          Hello Tore,

Sorry your post has gone unanswered. I’m not aware of any lathe kits available in the UK, although there have been a few designs from scratch over the years, and there is the Dore Wesbutry Mill which was available in kit form.

          Regards

I had a look at your lot no. on US Ebay;  it certainly isn’t the 8.5″ long Stuart Models miniature lathe, the castings for which sell for £146.50 + VAT (Britain’s Value Added Tax currently standing at 17.5% but due to go up to 20% very early in 2011) plus a not insignificant shipping charge (I guess) to the US.  Order now and save yourself 2.5%!

No connection whatsoever, financial or otherwise with Stuart Models.

Thats one of the P M Research Models. They do quite a large range as well as workshop fittings so you can make a whole shop complete with overhead line shafting etc.

You would be better asking on one of the US forums, I think i have seen a few of teh PMR models on HMEM.

I’ve just ordered a few scale pipe fittings from PM Research and they were dispatched within a couple of hours, just wait to see how long it takes UPS to get them to me and hopefully the value will be below VAt & Import duty levels.

                Jason,

I ordered the same thing, but made sure it was under the £18 duty limit (postage doesn’t count), and they took about 14 days to get here, even though it was only a tiny package.

If you go above that £18 limit, then UPS automatically pay the duty for you (how kind) and charge you around £11 for the privilege, plus the customs charge, and won’t deliver until you have paid the excess. The post office do the same thing, but only have a surcharge of £8. You are always better off, if you can, using USPS, then you have a chance of, if it is not too far over the customs limit, getting away with it.
