      You don't need to splash out on surgeon's binoculars. If you search the dreaded Fleabay for "magnifier" you will see headband type magnifiers are very cheap to buy these days. Yes they are not surgical quality but are designed for jewellers and workers in computer chip assembly lines etc and surely good enough for mucking about in the shed.

        In NZ or Australia, Jay car have an optovisor for about $ NZ 20 (Dick Smith used to have them, but I think they'v gone nuts). Ian S C

          It's not just the quality: The really important thing is that they give a magnified image at a long working distance.

          Having said that I wouldn't distract from Brian's bench-building, I will leave it at that … but I'm happy to discuss this either by PM or in another thread.

              Interesting link Neil – perhaps they or someone similar will be at Sandown? I just realised for 2 years my office was within 50 yards of them!
