Broach guide

Following on from my broach question I have purchased a 1/8″ broach type A as recommended. I need to make a guide for the broach the diameter I know but the size of the slot width but the depth I do not

Do I measure the widest point plus the shime and the deduct the depth of the slot to be cut to get to the correct depth of the slot.

Or is there some material out there that would give dimensions

My 1/2″ one has 0.284″ metal left so looks like the slot is 0.216″ deep

Just go deep enough so that the guide on the broach enters the hole.

Use lots of lube on all surfaces when cutting.
