      Inspired by the YouTube channel ClickSpring I have been making the John Wilding "Large Wheel" Skeleton Clock on and off over the last year.

      In the ClickSping video

      Chris shows broaching the barrel to reduce friction and good fit.

      However in John Wildings book pages 25 to 29 he makes not mention of this. simply referring to drilling and reaming. Indeed on page 26 he states "The front cover… with a bush to increase the bearing area". I would have thought that this is sensible considering the torque is high here.

      What do the experts say?
