Brian’s Twin Beam Stirling Engine

This was my first effort at building an engine.

Mainly built with recycled materials.

Displacer Cylinder, Power Cylinder, Smoke Stack, Pressure Lines, Platform Support Columns are all made from recycled copper pipe.

Handrail is 4mm copper brake pipe I salvaged from the local MOT testing center.

Flywheel is made up of 3 layers of Laminate flooring with lead flashing on the outside rim.

Displacer is balsa wood covered in Aluminium foil.

Power cylinders are 22mm copper with pistons cast from 2 part epoxy using copper pipe as mould.

Cladding to the Water Jackets recylced coffee stirers from Costa Coffee – timber operating floor- lollipop sticks

The construction of the power train is basically the same as that shown in my other post – Brian's Horizontal Stirling Engine

Flywheel Bearings are 8mm from a fidgit spinner.

Most of the linkages, parallel motions etc are made from 4mm Bamboo from the £1 Shop.

That's an astonishing and really delightful piece of work.

The lighting is so uniform that I thought at first I was looking at a piece of CGI, but that idea soon evaporated.

Is that your own design, or adapted/modified from some established pattern? Amazing either way.

Made it up as I went along – but originally inspired by engines by Gary Knight on YouTube.

Not sure whether to comment on that statement or the result … either way, please stop it. The usual standard of build on this forum makes me feel inadequate, that just makes me want to give up!!! Far too many plusses – ambition, planning, innovation, fine workmanship, persistence … the list goes on. A natural entry to Sir John's Trophy, I would have thought.

Oh, did I mention, I'm quite impressed! +++
