Does anyone know where I might purchase a reasonably priced “Wedge” type Quick Change Tool post in the UK to suit a Boxford 4-1/2″ Model “A” lathe.
I see that “Piston” types are available but I would much rather have a “Wedge”

These things seem to be proliferate in America but not over here….

I’m not interested in the Dickson type QCTP as the holders will be too difficult to make.

      Regards

      Paul

I assume you’re after an Aloris or Dorian type tool holder. There are always loads of clones available on eBay.co.uk if you’re looking for cost effective. Plenty of suppliers also advertise the real thing on ebay.com and also ship internationally. Otherwise try J & L in the UK who also offer the real thing.

From memory most of the machine tool advertisers in ME and MEWS sell them. You may need to adjust them a little.

Jim, Aloris or Dorian would be nice but cost more than the lathe did , the Boxford size clones on Ebay are the piston type.
Ebay.com the spectre of Customs and Royal Mail factor in straight away last package I had from the States was 33 pence over the £18 customs limit between them they screwed me for £11 charges

Yes Paul the import lark can be a bugger. There seems to be no logic to it as it seems to be a lottery if they pick your parcel or let it through. I am luck as I work for an American company and we have plenty of mules travelling back and forth all the time.

I have been going though the same conundrum over a QCTP but have decided to stick with the original post for the time being. So should keep the purists happy in the DS&G thread.
