Anyone tried HPCGEARS for replacement screw cutting gears for the Boxford AUD lathe. I have been searching without success for a 24 tooth gear, and see that the above company sell 18DP gears in steel for not too much money ex-stock – also it looks like they do 100 tooth and will make specials (127 ??). Could be a cheaper way than hunting for the hens tooth 100/127 metric conversion gear. Yes, you would have to bore out and put the keyway slot

Only problem is HPC's gears are the modern 20 degree pressure angle standard and Boxford / Myford etc are all the older 14.5 degree standard.

Also never put the words specials and cheap in the same paragraph when talking with HPC gears. Whilst the stock gears are reasonable there specials are based on someone in industry being broke down where speed and availability are forefront in respect of price.

For the metric translation gears they often come up on ebay under Southbend as opposed to Boxford.

Also, have you tried G&M tools. They usually have lots of Boxford change wheels.

RDG tools have an odd few gears but Tony at http://www.lathes.co.uk carries biggest stock of Boxford gears.

Thanks for your advices – still a 24Tooth gear seems to be an enigma.

Don't forget John Ward at Latheparts.co.uk for Boxford parts and changewheels. Although notoriously difficult to track down, its still Winter so he should be in the workshop and not roaming the Scottish hills.
