A very handy mod. Brings it up to the standard of my ML7. laughlaugh

Adding a vertical slide opens up all sorts of new possibilities too.

            Alan Jackson:

Could you have carried out the operation on the Stepperhead?

From the video it looks as though you have made a new cross slide for the Chipmaster?

photo 20 modified vertical slide.jpgpict0013.jpgpict0008.jpgHi Hopper and vga,

Yes I do have a vertical slide for this cross slide. I could have carried out this operation on my Stepperhead lathe but the Chipmaster is a much bigger and more rigid lathe and even on this I could only make about .020" cuts without chattering etc. I modified the original cross sliide by adding 0.500" steel strips bolted from underside.pict0004.jpgphoto 21 vertical slide mounted.jpg

                Thanks for explaining.

That vee on the vertical slide table looks very handy.

Nice. I like that V slot too. Handy for diameters too small to rest on the T slot.

I find the Myford swivelling vertical slide annoyingly flexible , which does limit depth of cut. But the fixed vertical slide is a much more rigid beast and much to be preferred for most jobs.
