      I'm boring out a of vesconite (like acetal) bush but its ending up with the diameter nearest the chuck being 0.3mm larger than the outer, 28IDx60mm length, light cut. This only happens on the forward stroke. If I cut it while drawing the tool back out its parallel. I take it its something to do with tool geometry but can't figure it out. boring tool.jpg

          Its pushing on the way in and slicing on the way out, so less deflection

          make your front end more acute/sharper

          I tidy those particular tools up as a matter of habit with a green wheel, they are prone to chipping if you push them but can do useful work

            I'd agree, you need the sharpest possible edge on the tool for both cutting directions. HSS would be a better tool material IMO.

              Looks like a brazed carbide tool? Wrong tool for the job. You need HSS with a large top rake, or a CCGT polished insert designed for aluminium. Plastics tend to need to be cut rather than sheared.
