I have no connection with Easycomposites (link below) but as a customer I cannot recommend them highly enough.

They do many types of adhesives amongst a vast product range and the staff are extremely knowledgeable. I would also mention that their instructional videos (really well produced) cover bonding all sorts of materials from the mundane to aerospace stuff.

Round carbon into round stainless steel tube around 15mm.

I used Araldite on the pendulum of my clock, hasn’t fallen off yet. Shallow thread put on the SS and nominal size tap run up the carbon fibre tube (M4 tap up nominal 4mm hole) The bob is pretty heavy. Leave the Araldite for a coupe of days before loading it to fully cure (not the rapid version, goes off too quickly and isn’t as strong)

I would abrade the stainless with wet and dry, or shot blast with alumina to give a stronger bond. Slow setting epoxy as already suggested for the best strength. I managed to get hold of some genuine Araldite standard and it is no longer made in Horsham, but a bit further away in Goa.

Pure shear joint so not very critical. General purpose epoxy should be fine. Ideally slow cure type with slightly elevated temperature (40-50 deg) to speed cure. Abrade and carefully clean surfaces before application.

Another choice would be toughend acrylic either two-part or with surface activator. Latter e.g. Loctite 330, is a good choice if you can’t (or don’t want to in a production process) fully degrease one surface. Generally more expensive than epoxy.

                  Robert.

Ensure that there is no release agent inside the carbon tube. You can use epoxy resins or you can use the acrylic glues. Difficult to get, but there are now nano tube and graphene reinforced glues available in some countries. These bond very well to carbon fibre matrix and metals.
