        Hi There
Does anyone know of a supplier of blued steel plate for loco frames.
        Small quantities prefered.
I believe this is hot rolled sheet.
        regards David

Original “Blued steel” was the thin stuff used for cleading (Or cladding, take your pick), HR steel as opposed to CRS would have a blue/black finish as standard and has a rough finish. If yer want it to be nice and smoove, get some CRS and have it annealed.

              Regards  Ian.

Dougie I have just bought some from M Metals in Darlington. They have a web site and were very helpful.
Your not messing with that Northumbrian beastie are you?

No, I am thinking about something along the same lines I saw in the transport museum in Glasgow ,it is a similar model but the frames were made of wood, I’m trying to find more information at the moment.

Reeves sell sheared plate for frame sides, mostly sized to suit their loco range.

I recently needed a small amount of 1.6mm steel sheet for a project – I went to my local industrial steel supplier, and bought a 4′ square sheet for £10 – much cheaper than buying in smaller quantities, and then you have a stock for future use.
