Blowlamp replacement

My Campingaz TH2000PZ Piezo Ignition Blowlamp just failed in spectacular fashion (the connector parted company with the plastic base of the body and dumped all the gas at once while lit…. that was a fun few seconds).

I use my sievert propane burner for anything big, I tend to just use this one for silver soldering boiler fittings etc. I don't want to drag the big bottle out every time so like the convenience of the built in bottle you get with a traditional style gas blowlamp.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good quality gas blowlamp that will last? I have quite a few of the screw thread canisters used by the Campingaz unit (GoSystem branded) so would like to retain that bottle type. I think its fairly standard anyway.

Every unit I've found looks like plastic junk, as seen on some of the more terrifying photos on amazon reviews of melted blowlamps sat on scorched earth! A built in Piezo starter is nice but not essential.

I don't fancy going back to paraffin but they did seem better made….

I've had a 'GoGas'-branded head – similar to their current GB2070 – for years, always been reliable, monobloc cast brass body contains the connector, valve, and receives the burner tube – the plastic handle just attached to it; manual ignition, a bit old school but none the worse for that.

Would be worth handling a modern one 'instore' and checking whether they are still all-brass bodied I guess..

sievert do a small one for screw on canisters its called a Handyjet and comes with two nozzles. bought mine from the CUP stand at a show several years ago.

Ok interesting, thank you both for your help. I will investigate. I'm not usually one for slavishly following brands but my Sievert burner is easily 40 years old (handed down by my grandfather) and is just lovely to use.

Have a look at the Proxxon micro torch. I use one for all small silver soldering fittings etc.

For many years l have used a Primus Sievert 8716 neck tube on a Primus 2000 cylinder . The cylinder holds a good amount of gas and there are several sizes of burner available to suit most applications, from a micro flame right up to one suitable for medium sized silver soldering work . Spare seals are also readily available .

I have used a Benzomatic torch for a number of years which has been excellent. (also use by professional plimbers). It can be used with propane and MAPP gas for a hotter flame for silver soldering. Instant on and off by pressing the button. (also used in the kitchen to char a steak after slow cooking in a sous vide)

I do have quite a stock of the old gas cylinders to get through so my preference is for something that is compatible. Thanks for the options though.

A quick search shows them for sale on Amazon and also on the Campingaz website. But I doubt that you will find a better torch that uses your old gas canisters.
