      Hi all

I have a limited background in engineering from many years ago, newly retired I am just setting up a home workshop and so far have a Boxford 280 Long bed lathe, a late Myford Super 7, a Warco WM18 mill, and a Centec 2 horizontal mill.

      Looking forward to some tinkering………..

Welcome along David, that is a nice selection of equipment to start off with. Enjoy it, retirement was the best career move I ever made.

              Thanks smiley

Only problem is there is so much kit crammed in my garage, I need to build another garage plus storage shed before I can sort it out and start using it! sad.

                  David,

Crammed garage? I know that feeling. What worked for me….. a few trips to the tip (recycling centre) and the scrapyard.

What are you going to build – anything exciting?

I seem to make more withdrawals than deposits…

I completed building my bench this evening, I can cram that with junk too now!

I am in the process of rebuilding some 1950/60's British steel framed racing (push)bikes, plus I do a bit of amateur gunsmithing, so will be threading barrels and things like that. smiley

So that's why some people keep coal in the bath!

I have my priorities correct, the car has been turfed out of the garage and will have to spend the winter outside! sad

                                Welcome!

But DON'T throw it away, it will come in handy one day. You will think of a use for it the day after you take to the scrappie!

A scrap flattish candle holder had a nice knurled handwheel hiding inside when I put in the lathe!

A supposedly scrap steel shelf from a redundant steel cupboard was an ideal chip tray for a friend's lathe.

Three short lengths of steel angle made a fitting for the top of a scissor jack to lift a friends lathe, (just clamp a length of bar in the chuck so that it sticks out of the back of the Mandrel, and the V in the third bit of angle allows the Headstock end of a heavy lathe to be lifted)

No wonder that is scarcely room to turn around in my little shop.

Welcome David; nice pieces of kit you have there as starters… hope you have time to pursue your new hobby… once your family have established you have time, it's a ongoing cycle of … 'Mam/dad can you just look after'… 'will you do me a favour'…. can I drop the kids off while I …. I had more time to enjoy my man cave when I was working… still they are family so what can you do…dont know
