Where could I purchase bronze rod from, tried one modeling site and they quoted me 16.50p for 13mm x 500mm but the postage was 38 pounds extra, Yes I do live on an island in north scotland but I think this is a bit of a rip off, surely there must be a better deal somewhere,

Do a Goole for Leeds Bronze.
They may post small quantities, not sure as they deliver to me twice weekly.

I have never found anyone to beat them on price and service, in fact lately they are quoting less for bronze than a lot of suppliers are quoting on brass ??!!

                Hi There
                I live in North Scotland.
If they don’t do Royal Mail at a reasonable price they don’t get my business.
You could always get it sent to a friend down south and pay them to post it to you.
Plenty of people will post to Scotland at no extra charge on Ebay.
It is the carrier that is the problem.

                regards David

                  Hi George,

Try Macc models here,  I’ve used him before and he has resonable prices and charges postage by the weight via Royal Mail.  I just looked at his prices and they are favourable for bronze, he quotes for a 12″ length but will cut others if you ask.

                      Hi,
Thanks Terryd and everyone that replied I have tried Macc models and they quoted me 2.50p postage on a length of 12” x 1/2″” a huge difference from the 38 pounds I was quoted from the first shop I tried,so I now know who will get the order.

                        Hi all,
I checked some usual ME suppliers and either they apparently did not stock, or were too expensive, for my want. Have ended up ordering  3/4″ AF Hex. x 12″ Phos. Bronze bar from College Engineering, £11.45 + VAT, in my old copy of their advert and arranging to pick it up from next months ME exbn. – not far away – I live in Brighton. Do you all think this is probably a reasonable price?
Have also ordered for collection from xbn., from Tracy Tools, 5/16″ x 40T Tap £3 and Die £4. Nearly fell off chair when I saw prices from some advertisers and since my wants will get limited use, I thought thats all I need to pay. About the most polite remark made by those who know me is that I`m tight!! But why spend  £35 (incl. carriage) when a mere £7 will do?
                        John.

Ask the same question after you have snapped a cheap tap off in a job you have 30 hours into.

I’ve found the Tracy Tools stuff pretty good quality. the drill sets are better than most, and all the cutters and taps I’ve had have been OK.
