      Hi Guys,

I have been looking at old posts in relation to a filing machine. Also I have looked what is available in kit form. I only have Sherline machinery and some of these kits require larger swings than I have.

Before I can make a proper assessment can anyone put me right as to the difference between a die fiiing machine and a bench filer?

      Any other pointers appreciated.

      Regards

      Chris

          Chris ,

Have you had a look at the filing machine detailed in Vol 0. Issue 4 ( very early MEW ) .

Its not a kit , however , it’s small as in suitable for bench top , and by the look of it , fairly simple to construct , designed by Stan Bray , so it also has pedigree! .

Hi, yes thanks I have seen this. I am a little hesitant over whether when all said and done a bench filer is a major asset to me or not. What I have been doing is gathering as much info as possible to look at the alternatives. One thing i have come across is that the old machine files may be difficult to source. The fundamentals for a bench grinder seem simple good bushing and like a scroll saw reduce all vibration. I will come back to this when have more time.

I looked at making one years ago but the lack of machine files put me off
