For more tales of woe, go to the Trust Pilot site and search for any bank name. With so many dissatisfied customers, it’s a wonder the banks continue to operate profitably. But then, of course, like any competent bureaucracy, they have made themselves essential intermediaries/parasites, and can design the rules to suit themselves.

I used to think that Banks were there to help simple Joe Soaps to deal with money problems, but my experiences over the years has led me to believe that this is not the case.

They dont seem to able to handle their own business, never mind Joe Soaps.

There is a list of banks offering special accounts for charities, clubs, non profit orginisations, etc., here:

Just to update on my original posting, after Barclays unceremoniously closed down the account of my wife’s group, we have finally managed to receive the two thousand odd pounds that was in the account when it was closed. They had insisted on issuing a cheque made payable to the group but I said it wasn’t a lot of use as the group no longer held an account in their name as they had closed it, however despite agreeing to issue a cheque in my name, as the treasurer, they then issued it in the groups name. I again negotiated with them to issue the money by bank transfer directly to my personal account, which is with a completely separate bank. The money finally came through last Friday, and now we are hopefully in the final stages of opening a business account with Lloyds, who have been extremely helpful with the process. I would say that the experience between both banks is like chalk and cheese, here’s hoping for a pleasant experience from now on.   Dave W
