      Hi everyone

I hope everyone is well, so I have attached a picture of a small amount of progress. Things have been extremely slow going but hand making takes its time, but satisfying when done.

Dosent help when you buy a new pillar drill and it is complete rubbish, so I nearly ruined hours of worked with mis-drilled holes.

Better quality drill for Xmas I'd say.image.jpg

          Thank you Stuart.

I wish I had the time and money to finish but I don't have the kills to make the cylinders work or the tools to finish a lot of the jobs.

Up for Sale as some may see.

Thanks everyone for there time with my questions.

              Hi everyone

Some may see the train is for sale on eBay and for some reason are concerned I mentioned I was given the train! Let me just say I brought the train from a flea market but said it was given to me as I was concerned I'd be told it was crap. Which indeed I was by Julian!

Even after this I spent a lot of time and money carrying on with the project, but now I haven't the time to finish.

If anyone looking at the train is concerned or unhappy please don't consider bidding, I'm a kind and trustworthy guy and don't like being made to feel I'm ripping people off.

I thank you for the help and kind words from some of the forum troop.

              Regards Derek

Seems a shame, its at the stage where a lick of paint would have made a nice display model, whatever else.

                  Thanks Neil

Because my bladder is bad, I've decided that I'd like to invest in some Naim Audio hi fi equipment who I actually work for so I want to clear the summer house out from workshop into a music room.

The funds would buy some fittings etc, and there's no where for the train in the house.

Thanks for everyone's help and kind words.

                    Hi Derek.

As an occasional follower of your project I am sorry to see that you are unable to carry on with it.

Good luck with the sale, I hope you manage to recoup the cash invested.

Naim lovely gear! Unfortunately with my defective hearing, proper HiFi sound is something of a distant memory now.

Best wishes for the future and I hope the Music Room project goes well.

                      Derek,

I've only just seen your recent posts

Sorry to see you won't be completing the loco, but congratulations on your choice of how to spend the proceeds yes

I don't own any Naim equipment; but have listened to quite a lot, and always been impressed. … I have been a fan since the early days of that famous magazine advert: "I'm sorry I didn't catch your Naim".

Thanks for the kind words Micheal.

Having worked at Naim for 10 years now I've been involved in some fantastic sounding equipment and is a privilege to own some units and speakers.

                        Regards Derek

It's a shame we won't see this finished, but that has to be your choice.

However, as Michael says, I can only approve your choice of how to spend the proceeds – I have had Naim and Linn hi-fi for about 30years now smile d.

                              Hi Derek,

I am sorry to hear of your sale.

Given all your hard work I hope you get a decent price.

You might be pleasantly surprised, though I wont be bidding.

                              Cheers,

                              Julian

Hi Derek, I'm also building a Bassett Lowke 2 1/2" Flying Scotsman. My father started it in 1951, and I intend to finish in his memory. So mine has never run, but has been in build for 67 years. It is now almost finished, with just some plumbing on the tender and beading on cab and tender to complete. I'm hoping the boiler will pass it's certification test. If so, it just needs painting to be finished. I have a full set of drawings, which I'd be happy to have copied for you. I'm sure we could be of help to each other. I also have a complete set of castings which I'd be willing to sell. I have a request to anyone seeing this. I'm stuck at the moment because I need the needle valve that feeds the spirit into the sump under the spirit tank. I don't have access to a lathe in order to make one. So if anybody has one for this design, or one similar that could be adapted, I'd be very grateful.

Hi all, I have inherited a Bassett-Lowke 2 1/2 inch flying scotsman and would like to reach out to you all in the hope of finding drawings and advice on how to complete the model that my grandad started over 60 years ago

I will try to post some pictures soon and I am looking forward to the challange this model obviously contains.

Hello David and welcome to the forum.

You might find it better to start a new thread rather than tacking your post on to an earlier one, things get a bit lost in all the other postings.

Can I suggest you join the National 21/2" gauge Association, very reasonable subs and an excellent little magazine, you will find much help and advice available. I used to be membership secretary and old habits die hard! There is a website with details of drawings and reprints available

There are several of these loco's in the association, I believe that reprints are available from them of the original B-L construction manual, Drawings may be available from the association or Maxitrack who now have all the Greenly drawings. For inspiration have a look at John Baguley's website he has restored several 21/2" gauge engines, I regularly pinch his clever ideas! I was also posting on this forum about restoring a 21/2" loco under "Problems with another president" ( this has stopped for a while as I decided to change lathes and have temporarily destroyed my workshop)

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress and if you have any questions I'm sure someone on the forum will have an answer.

                                      Dave
