A few folks have asked after more details of my bandsaw modifications.

You can download an article from 2016 detailing them here

      Thanks,

      Neil

I incorporated all of Neil’s excellent mods to my bandsaw but one further addition I have made is a bar across a pair of studs to hold stub ends firmly and to stop them tilting from downward pressure.

Some great ideas to take your bandsaw to a new level.

I tried adding castors to each corner, but the legs just weren’t rigid enough to wheel the bandsaw across my tamped garage floor.  Instead, I made a wooden frame for the bandsaw to sit on, and added the castors to that.  Not only does it wheel across the floor better, but puts the bandsaw a a more comfortable working height.

Sometime soon I’m going to stiffen up the motor mounting plate.  It’s just a bit flimsy.

Yes Bo’sun has the right idea. I have stiffened up the frame using a shelf and made a wooden trolley with castors. The latter has transformed the saw in terms of usability. I have also made a slide holding a large baking tray, which catches the “saw dust”.

Thanks for reminding me Andrew, a chip collector will also be on the list.

Roderick’s top clamp is a very good idea.

Another job on the “round tuit”

FWIW, I tapped the far end of the moving jaw (M8) , made up and fitted a M8 stud, with a knurked “knob” so that the jaws can be better aligned when clamping short ends.

My swarf catcher is a plastic tray that just fits into the metal shelf. After sawing is finished, the tray is removed and the swarf brushed into an empty baked bean tin, for disposal.

I like Rod’s mod to put a downward pressure on a piece of short metal held in the vice. Another mod to do but i may put a screw through the clamp to press down on smaller pieces. I have fitted wheels on my saw which helps greatly moving it arround the shop. I saw a dolly trolly in Aldi for only about £5.00 and the wheels looked just the right size. I just made four ally blocks and bolted them on to the legs and fitted the wheels.
