I just got a new A1 and it is just so good. Hardly any assembly. You can be printing a benchy in 30 mins (most of that tits is unpacking, calibrating, and linking to computer or phone app).

It just makes everything so easy. I previously had a very pimped Ender 3 with hemera extruder/hot end and lots of other upgrades including linear rail, Mar.lin with active damping, auto bed levelling.

The A1 does all the fancy stuff and more: bed levelling, extruder calibration, extruder cleaning, filament detection with pause print-reload-purge function, active damping…. it also has active noise cancelling on the motors so there is no noticeable motor noise. Just noise from belts and linear rails, and the extruder fan. Comes with camera.

Nice little colour touch screen so you can just drive it all stand alone.

And it is as fast (faster?) as my tuned Ender. It just works! And works well!

          Thanks for the clarification

No hope of me finding the space to use one, but I will be interested to see how you get on with it.

After retirement from a career in Toolmaking I have also got into 3D printing as something to keep the brain ticking over, I have a Bambulabs P1S printer and am learning the Onshape modelling software, its all very interesting and compliments my machining skills nicely. You’re never too old to learn new skills!

The A1 is the same – just a little bit of assembly required to fit the bridge to the base.  It’s a properly designed product rather than something for enthusiasts to tweak and play with to get working well…

I’ve been using a bambu x1 at work, and it’s been almost flawless. The only time I’ve had a failed print is when I’ve changed from the recommended settings, otherwise it’s just a case of hit ‘auto calculate’ in the slicer, send it to the printer and come back later for the part with no drama at all.

After I sold all my metalworking machines a few months ago, I treated myself to a BambuLab X1 carbon printer with AMS to try to stave off the withdrawal symptoms of an empty workshop.  Later I succumbed to the need for a lathe and purchased a 7×14 mini lathe, “just for fun projects”. Of course, it didn’t stop there, and I soon found myself needing to make parts which would be nigh-on impossible using the mini lathe.  The 3D printer really came into its own here, and I have made numerous parts for it using PLA-CF (carbon fibre reinforced) and latterly ABS-GF (glass fibre ditto) filaments.  The results have been quite outstanding, at least for now.  The proof will be in their longevity (or not).  So far, the fairly complex mounts for the ELS stepper motor, the spindle encoder and its associated gear have performed as well, if not better, than I could have hoped.  I’m very pleased with the printer, as you can probably tell!

Having said that, I miss the mill (I had a Warco VMC), and hope to add a small bench top one to my armoury soon.

                  John
