      Good afternoon people ,

I am new to live steam models apart from soldering a 3.5” tank loco boiler for a friend some 30 years ago. A 5” Southern Schools Class , St Bernard Convent decorated my lobby for years, bought from a modellers daughter that attended the school in Slough.

at 76 years, I am having difficulty in fettling my vintage and PVT sports cars due to the waiting for my second hip replacement, so I decided to find a nice bench hobby avoiding standing and walking.
a B1 Springbok unfinished project appears on EBay at a fraction of the Reeves price. I understand there are several errors and omissions in Martin Evans’s drawings and I wish to avoid them. May I request any expert advice to help me avoid these pitfalls or where to find them.

I live in Newbury and have all the kit from my business, including a TOS KURIM turret mill , a Chester mill , Harrison M300, an Ajax ? X 1009mm centre lathe, a 30 ton air/hydraulic press, vertical and flatbed linishers, double ended polishing spindle , TIG welders MIG WELDERS, OXY/ ACET ,anvil and a big hammer,a grit blast chamber, and a vertical slotting machine and plenty of lifting tackle.

Recently, I produced a 32 hp marine compound as a replacement for an armed steam cutter from HMS Falmouth, currently being restored in Boathouse 4 at The Naval Base Property Trust at Portsmouth.

I look forward to your responses.

      Dave

Hi David welcome to the forum. It seems you are a well accomplished engineer with a workshop as well. I am afraid I have little steam information to help you but I have a couple of hip joints in the garage (samples from job I did in the past as a toolmaker making the patterns for lost wax casting) perhaps you could help with pictures of your build progress.

You appear to have posted the same request twice but in different threads?. I will repeat what I suggested in the other thread. The Model Engineering Clearing House forum (MECH) see link below has a very high level of steam locomotive participation. If you start a thread on the 'General Chat section' of MECH asking for advice, plenty of people on there have either built or own B1's and will give you any advice needed. One of my fellow club members has a B1 and regularly posts on the site. I would also advise joining a local model engineering society, who will also be able give you valuable advise. Your nearest clubs are Reading, Andover, Basingstoke or Oxford. Good luck
