What about Autosketch?
I used it in education for years version 5.
I gather it is now up to version 10 does anyone know if there are significant changes to the user interface..
V 10 is supposed to work on Windows 10, can anyone confirm this.
One of the reasons I like QCAD is it reminds me of Autosketch and has similar capability. QCAD's advantage is that it's still actively maintained on Windows, Linux and Mac. Autodesk stopped supporting Autosketch in 2008 : one day the various compatibility modes provided by Microsoft will expire and it won't run…
QCAD's license model is friendly. The Pro version is downloaded free and the product can be used in 15 minute bursts. Paying about £35 removes the 15 minute nuisance and gets 3 years worth of upgrades; the product does not stop working after 3 years and it does not 'phone home', or require an internet connection. If you choose not to pay, the Pro trial can be ended leaving a slightly reduced 'Community Edition' fully active. This is still very capable; Pro has a few more tools, useful short-cuts and updated DXF compatibility. Pro is worth the money but not essential; most 2D drawings can be done with the Community Edition alone.
Like Autosketch, QCAD is recommended if you want a grown-up technical drawing package that stays straightforward by NOT supporting 'difficult' 3D and power-user features.
