Hi all, Ive just been offered an Atlas 10D, not sure of the age. Ive done some research and come back with mixed views.

Does anyone here have one, love it hate it? Should I avoid it or if its cheap enough would it be a good buy? I dont know what they sell for.

I hope someone can help with some advice, obviously its rather old, but looks in good condition.

          Hi,

You should get a copy of MEW 226, out right now. John Harris has a good article covering his treasured Atlas 10F.
My advice would be to maximise the kit that comes with it. Chucks, steadies, centres and tooling can cost more than the machine if you've got to add them later!
To paraphrase another poster- "My world turns on an Atlas"

I know i couldn't believe it! I havent manged to pick up a copy yet though. It doesn't have much with it , a set of change wheels and a couple of chucks, but its a good start. I'll see if I can beg any more tools to go with it, to get me going.

I cant find this months MEW on sale anywhere, I can download it but i'd rather have hard copy.

On the plus side I picked up my new lathe today, and its a 10 – F !! Power cross feed, brilliant looks like the previous owner spent some time restoring it too. Very pleased

Just one of the privileges of having a hard copy subscription to the mag. You get it on the doorstep a week before they are in the shops.

I think I'm going to do the same! So its out next week? I was so excited reading the last issue, I never realised there was a magazine devoted to the engineering workshop!. excellent magazine.

I scoured every news agent I passed today, about 6 in total but no joy
