Are messages getting through on this site?

So far, no replies and the messages are marked as unread

It’s the first time I’ve messaged since the site was updated, previous to the update I was able to email sellers.

Are messages actually working?

Is anyone else experiencing difficulties?

Or have I just chanced on people who’ve been too busy to get to their messages?

Sent a pm to Iain regarding re-homing Ted Cox’s model tractor.  Haven’t had a reply yet, but then again, I have no idea if he’s seen it, or even knows if he’s been sent a pm.

Many users don’t have notifications turned on and may not visit the site regularly.

It can take weeks for an occasional user to see a message, and some people just don’t notice them!

Beware that “unread” does not mean that the message has not been read. It actully means “remove the read status”

Its a bug that was raised early on and still unresolved.

… it is simply a matter of English usage, and is consistent with the other options for what to do with a message.

Just looked around and apart from actually going to the ‘messages’ tab does it let you know if there is a new one? The old version had a tiny flag that I normally didn’t see for days. I think I get an email though when someone does message me.

You get a bracketed number against “messages” on the green bar signifying if you have a new message(s) or have marked one previously RED as UNRED, a lot of people looking at the list will think that a sent message is still waiting for the recipient to REED it rather you an option for them to mark it as UNRED.

True but ‘unread’ breaches the principle of least astonishment.

There may be a problem with messages: I’ve just replied to one sent two months ago, and I’m fairly sure it wasn’t listed when I last checked a few weeks ago.   Possibly my fault because I rushed it, or have lost my marbles.

POLA has now become an earworm, I dont know whether I should be sad or happy that Dave has alerted me to POLA existence and origin but at least I now know that in the past when I have made online ‘mischoices’ and whinged about stupid webpage design or whatever, I was not being overly pedantic.

As it happens I have had two recent experiences with ‘PATCHS’ and that really is not fit for purpose. The moans I have had on and about this website are bad enough, but only thousands (hopefully) are affected, whereas PATCHS is, or will have millions of users.

One gentleman has replied

But so far hasn’t sent a phone number or email address for more direct communication

If I’m going to visit him this weekend, I need to make my arrangements NOW

Next weekend isn’t an option and the weekend after is already booked up

Other gentlemen hadn’t received any notifications

I actually managed to track him down, he lives about 70 miles from me.

I went and knocked on his door last night, and fortunately he had time to see me, and we are now in direct contact

I bought a couple of items from the old version of the forum

That was very quick and straightforward – as it should be.

The gentlemen are not seeing the message notifications and are not receiving email or text notifications with this new version

Very very frustrating

Up till now, messages relating to Classified ads has worked perfectly for me. Now I’m getting email notifications as I expect from the forum saying so and so has replied, but when I go to my messages there isn’t one. I’ve tried on differents devices, clearing caches , loggin in / out, waiting a few hours before retrying but still none.

Any known problem at the moment?
