      Arc Euro Trade updating website

      —————————————-

We are going through the process of updating our website.

As a result of the change from the old to the new, visitors may find that certain pages look as if they are 'work in progress'.

The new site is expected to be launched by middle of next week. Once launched, there will still be some 'work in progress', as we fill certain departments with correct pictures and information.

The whole process is expected to be completed by the end of this month.

If anyone in the U.K. finds difficulties placing orders through our site during this period, please call us and we will be happy to take orders over the phone.

For reasons of security, all overseas customers are still requested to place orders through our website. If the ordering process becomes difficult, please email us and we will try to assist.

It is our hope that the disruption to service will be minimal, and we would like to apologise for any inconvenience as we go through the changeover.

      Ketan at ARC.

          Just an update…

This morning we are in the process of moving over from the old site to the new.

We are hoping to move across within the next two hours. There may be some disruption to service during this period and the current site may shut down temporarily, for which we apologise.

Once the move is complete, there will still be some 'work in progress' as we populate certain departments….a little bit like filling the shelves in a new store

It is hoped that normal service will resume by 12 Noon GMT..

          Ketan at ARC.

The move, along with various tests have now been completed and services are back to normal.

There are a few changes to the layout styling, and how the site works on different screen sizes, and mobile devices such as android, iphones and ipads. It is interesting how the site works/behaves on mobile devices.

The 'industry idea' is to try and make it more 'user friendly' on such devices by following a 'set standard'. Achieving this goal has been a bit of a challenge. We had been testing on various android and Apple devices, and addressed a whole bunch of quirks across various platforms, to include how it looks in portrait as well as landscape format. There may still be a few quirks which we might have failed to see, or unable to address.

My personal view and hope is that generally people will find navigating our site more easier than before. However, I am aware that some customers who have been used to navigating our site in a particular way, may find the change to be more difficult or un-necessary. We wait and see, but if you happen to one of those who find our site navigation experience to be worse than before, I apologise. You can always call us and we will try our best to help you.

            Ketan at ARC.

Looks good on my laptop. yes

No idea about other devices but the page 'falls' better on screen than it did.

Unfortunately the new website does not display correctly on my machine. (Windows 10 & Firefox 43.0.4).

The product menu on the left does not display at all unless you make the window very narrow. There are a lot of layout problems in addition.

Looks fine under MS Edge (the new explorer)

Not really a problem, if I want to order, I'll either do it at work or on the pc at home….might try my android….

Best of luck pleasing everyone Ketan..👍

Just had a PHONE CALL from Arc Euro. Apparently I hit a known problem with browser history. If you hit the problem I did refresh the page. This forces the browser to not use an out of date copy it has kept. On Firefox (and I think other browsers) pressing F5 does this.

Full marks to them for following up the problem and I hope this helps others to continue to use the Arc Euro site.

Also an apology to the chap who called earlier today with a similar problem and got cut off during call transfer. Sorry we didn't take your name before call transfer. If you are reading this, please try to refresh the page Ctrl-F5, or clicking the 'refresh' anticlockwise circle with the arrow button next to the url at the top on ipad type products if you cant find Ctrl-F5, and also update the bookmark (if you have also done this).

A quick observation on the new website. It looks great but…..

Can you get the team to sort out the search engine so that when you enter more than one word it gives the best results for the query and not every possible item that matches each word? e.g Ball Turning comes back with 302 hits. Starting with every ER ball nut, then every ball ended cutter, ball handles and page after page of ball bearing. With 302 hits and 18 items to a page you end up with 17 pages to trawl through. I got to page 3 and gave up, hence the email. Entering "Ball turn" or "Ball Turning" gets no hits so the string matching isn't working either.

Back to clicking; but no ball turning attachment. I'll bet its in there somewhere…

                              Pete

Pete, I just typed in radius and its the first three thing that came up, they do more than just turn balls which is why ARC don't call them ball turners but radius turning attachments.

Using the woodturners tricks to hold the work you could use them to do a sphere with no attachment point. Basically turn as much of the sphere as you can and then saw off from the stem. Now hold between two bits of bar that have a recess (countersink will do) in the ends, one in the chuck, the other in the tailstock and turn away the remains of the stem.

A bit like I am holding this spherical part for drilling.

                                        Hi Pete,

Thanks for your feedback. It will work now if you put in the phrase: ball turning

I am working on some other words which are used to describe a product differently from the way we describe them. This will be a continuos work in progress, so do let me know if you come across a problem with the Search similar to Pete, and I will try to figure out a fix if I can. The results may still deliver a few unknowns, but I will see what is possible.

Thanks again Pete and sorry for the inconvenience.

How about balance sheet for four quid owing ?
