I’ve held off long enough.
The major cause of poor radio reception these day is the huge amount of interference from electronic equipment. This is made worse by the large number of poorly designed / made items that don’t meet the legal requirement for emissions. All those “cheap” bits from the far east. Low enery light bulbs, cell phone chargers, VFDs without cases and filters etc. Domestic solar is a major contributor too.
As an example I had a car cellphone charger that wiped out the local radio station. Just the one. It was emiiting a signal right on that frequency. Testing showed it was within permitted levels (it was a branded charger) but still enough to cause trouble.
