Just wondering if any Aussie subscribers to MEW can tell me when their mag usually arrives.

I took out a subscription recently and the January issue arrived about Jan 10. But then the February issue went AWOL until the first week in March. Now wondering whether to expect the March issue to turn up soon or next month sometime?

They are posted out from the UK at the same time as the UK subscriber copies. I have no idea the route they take, or even if it is the same one.

There was a five-week gap between the Jan and Feb issues reasons relating to the Christmas break which will account for some of the discrepancy.

My copy normally arrives about a week or so after the issue date but it appears in the newsagents much earlier.

I too subscribed to MEW recently. I received an email which said my subscription would start with No 226 which would be delivered "on or around 27/02/2015". It's now 15/03/2015 and still waiting………….

              yours in hope

If its any consolation, that is the same Issue I am currently waiting for. I'll let you know if/when mine arrives.

Guess Im old fashioned but I like to sit down with an actual magazine. I spend far too much time in front of a computer as it is. However, I  can see that the digital edition would allay the frustration at reading posts on here referring to the latest issue, then having to wait weeks and weeks to find out what all the fuss is about!

But between my twin addictions of old motorbikes and model engineering, I get parts and equipment etc sent from the UK almost every week, sometimes several times a week. Never had one go astray. And they all arrive within 6-10 days.

Thanks Neil. Mine arrives with a label on it from Switzerland, so not sure how that all works.

If you are using 'Offline' PocketMags Reader, then you can download the copies to your PC/iPad etc, then you won't need a internet connection when you want to refer back to an issue.

You will only be able to view EVERY issue online , a digital sub will only let you download issues via Pocketmags from the date you activate your Pocketmags account

Its a bit of a raffle….Sometimes the magazine arrives in a couple of weeks sometimes weeks more. and yes some have gone AWOL… a couple over the years. I have an almost complete set. I used to get the magazine from a newsagent, not good at all they often did not get enough stock or were not supplied their distributer I would then have to chase around other shops. A direct subscription is the way to go. less glitches….

Having lived in the same house for almost 40 years I guess Australia post knows where I live.

Amazon in the US or the book depository (owned by Amazon) in the UK have no problem delivering in about 2 weeks the last order was not a book it was a helical gear for a "Kitchen Aid" mixer a bit over 4 dollar's plus freight at that price I ordered 2 just in case for about 20 dollars the lot delivered. They arrived in 10 day's. in a proper box filled with foam. This was not an exception we order a lot of books from them.

I guess it depends on how the sender despatches their goods.

                              Regards

We try to do our best.

We use the same distribution company as some of the biggest and most well-known magazines in other sectors (e.g. Mojo, Vogue) so it's not a back-street operation.

Unfortunately the sheer number of magazines sent out (including large numbers to the Commonwealth and USA) means that there is always the possibility of someone getting unlucky.

When someone has more than one issue go astray, there is usually a definite reason (e.g. most South African readers eventually got issues held up by their big postal strike, but a couple fell unlucky and lost two or three issues.

Here in New Zealand delivery has been fine. The supply to the local bookshop was erratic in the past, so I decided to subscribe. Personally, I keep my back issues for reference and have bound many using heat binding.

It's a total lottery for me (Canberra)

over dec-feb I seemed to have lots of gaps in arrival, so I did a bit of an audit and think I am missing about three from last year. I too lie to read on the couch, and given that I have a few locations they tend to get scattered. Hence the need for an audit.

i have found that if I email a replacement is sent quickly, so have kept up the subscription.

Bill, my issue 226 just arrived. I'm in far north Qld so mail usually takes a few extra days to get here. So you should expect yours anytime now, I am guessing.

Off to the armchair for a bit of engineering now. Ooroo.

Ok fellow Aussies, what's the verdict. Is it worth subscribing?

Where I live (Vic/NSW border area) the local newsagent is very reliable (I do spend a bit there). Have actually heard him on the dog&bone berating the distributors when a favourite magazine failed to arrive in his allocated bundles.

I did take a peek at Neil's link for the 'special down-under offer' and although it looked tempting, I was saddened that the cookie from the distributor's website targetted me for customised offers for every other magazine in the universe that I am NOT interested in. That was quite off-putting.

I'm almost a pensioner, so not flush with funds. Indeed, if I need a few bob for a lathe, tools or tyres it means poking around in the bush for a few gold nuggets and all the hassles of cleaning and selling them. It's hot dusty work and the joe blakes love my little spot. Enough info! (I do have a "miners right" btw).

What's the bottom line – Worth subscribing or not?

My copy of the March MEW arrived today. I live in Sydney and normally receive it about the middle of the month. The newsagents get it about a week earlier. Problem is that they do not always have it in stock or have sold out.

I still get a regular delivery of the magazine, Just 2 weeks after it is released. No problem,

The day I came back here I swore I'd get back to Oz one day. However I'm still here in Brissol with my hopes fading away as time passes.

Talking about postage and time lag: On the back of comics back in the sixties there used to be an advert for staging your own invasion of a Pacific island using land sea and air forces game. It was all very exciting to me back then so I saved up my pocket money and sent off to America to get this wondrous game…….About six months later it arrived in a small cardboard box about the size of two packets of twenty fags. Was I disappointed? You can bet I was. It was a game of Battle ships using small ship tokens instead of a pencil and crossesangryangry
