I am still waiting for a small parcel, estimated delivery was 10-Nov […]

        .

        Hallelujah !!

        The parcel arrived safely today … final delivery by Yodel;

but according to InPost tracking it’s still at Llandudno crying 2

All’s well that ends well: But it’s a good job there was nothing perishable inside.

I ordered a small bottle of trumpet valve oil on 8th July 2019, it never arrived and the ebay seller sent another with no quibble. Yesterday morning a very grubby jiffy bag arrived and unbelievably contained the missing valve oil, where has it been for the last two years or so?

I contacted the seller told them of the situation and offered to pay for it, but they kindly said to keep it, I did wonder if it was some kind of record, but evidently that was a WW1 postcard that took 73 years.

Your package probably fell behind something, or fell off a conveyor belt into a dark part of the sorting depot, and they have only just found it.

I would be tempted to ask a seller NOT to use Hermes/Evri: who are cheap, and therefore attractive. But cheap does not mean best – or even good. They are cheap presumably because they cut corners and employ a lot of not very good workers, (who are cheap).

Coincidentally whilst emptying a cupboard yesterday I came across 2 little bottles of Holton valve oil. I've no idea where it came from or how old it is, but if you want it just send me your dirt mail address I'll send it.

After getting the replacement consignment quickly, and being able to fit them, after a slight modification because my valves are pretty old (boring out the bottom 1/4" of the hexagon base to 0.850" diameter), I needed some more to fit all the house radiators. Another seller had 6 for £18, even cheaper than the original lot, and they came today in a proper box delivered by Yodel. I only needed 3, but they would have cost as much as the 6 that I bought.

Ordered a small item off eBay. Evri tracking showed it was delivered yesterday at 10.33 am.

                  Except it wasn't.

I contacted Evri asking for proof of delivery (e.g. a photo of the parcel in my porch). They sent me a screenshot of a map of my road (proving what, exactly?).

I insisted this did not constitute proof of delivery and I'd never had the parcel. Zaahid from Evri Customer Services emailed me back promptly with a "Support Incident Update":

"Thank you for getting in touch with your enquiry regarding parcel H006… advising us that you haven't received it.

I have looked into this and can see that your courier delivered the parcel on 08/12 @ 10:33am. They posted your parcel through your letterbox for you to retrieve safely.

I’ve checked this against our system, (which tracks the location of the courier via GPS) and this shows they were outside your property at the time of the delivery. Your courier has also confirmed that your parcel was delivered to the correct address.

If you are still unable to locate your parcel, I would advise you to contact the sender of this parcel so they can discuss the appropriate next steps with you, which may include a refund or replacement item. If you need anything in the future, please contact your Evri Customer Service Team and we’ll be happy to help."

Evri are blatantly lying, as it turns out, because a neighbour three doors down approached me today to say he had an Evri parcel for me that was pushed through his door yesterday morning. It was the parcel in question.

The lying is doubly unappreciated because I have a big sign taped to my front door saying "Parcel deliveries – Do NOT leave with neighbours".

Stupid, maybe, but I'd rule out innocently mistaken on the basis that relying on a geolocation system when there are house numbers clearly marked on the parcel and the recipient's house, as well as on the house of the distant neighbour it was delivered to, isn't an innocent mistake but a reckless and potentially nocent misuse of technology.

And if Evri and/or the courier don't realise they delivered to a neighbour rather than me they are still lying, even if unknowingly [in which case they wouldn't be doing so blatantly, I concede], in asserting that the parcel "was delivered to the correct address".

EVRI (Hermes) must be the worst delivery company out there. They've managed to 'misplace' 3 of my orders so far. Contacted the supplier of my last order and they sent a replacement via DPD which arrived next day. Have told the supplier if they continue to send via EVRI I will order from elsewhere.

Michael, your suggestions were perfectly sensible.

The use of geolocation technology by couriers to determine precise locations of properties is fine as long as the user has an appreciation of the limitations of his technology's precision, and sensible corroborative measures [like matching the house number on the parcel with the number on the house] are always taken alongside use of the technology.

My experience does seem to suggest that using what3words or something, at any rate, that is better than what Evri is currently using might prevent at least a proportion of the delivery problems customers are encountering.

Of course EVR I know that the problems of delivery are for the suppliers who have the contract with you the purchaser.

If the item does not arrive it is the supplier who must make good.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, my own local EVRI delivery agent is excellent, the company overall less so, but we now live in Buxton; a smallish town where lots of folk know each other.
Prior to that i lived in Sheffield and am sill on a few of the community internet groups from there.
                                I spotted this earlier this afternoon;

"Are people still having issues with Evri? Had something stuck at the depot since last Friday. Complained to the supplier and the next afternoon a guy is poking about in the front garden….claims to be the courier looking for the missing parcel he says he left under a tree in the front garden "five or six days ago".

Tracking says parcel has never left the local depot…."

Anyone know what the EVRI process is when they can't deliver – is it left to the local agent, or does it go back to the delivery hub/whatever?

I had a failed delivery attempt last week. They helpfully sent me a picture of the parcel outside my gate but said they couldn't get in – it may have been frozen shut I suppose but Amazon have delivered as have Royal Mail when they're not having an off day.

Anyway, in spite of the accompanying "we'll try 3 times" statement there have been no further tracking updates so I am wondering which dusty corner it has been dumped in and whether if I catch the agent next time whether they will know anything about it.

As Terry-Thomas would say "they're an absolute shower". The amount of complaints on my local Facebook pages are astonishing and yet eBay still keeps promoting their usage! My heart sinks every time I see they are the courier. They're not the new Hermes, they're just the old Hermes with a different name and fooling no one.

That's interesting … I'd always assumed the eBay's "Global Shipping" which they foist on us from all angles meant that eBay has created their own courier company and are forcing it down everyone's throat.

(No evidence …. it just seemed par for the course).

In my experience, the service from Hermes/Evri completely depends on the person doing the delivery. My wife does quite a lot of online shopping with companies that use Evri and as long at is our usual delivery person they are reliable. The problems arise when they send someone else – then they usually fail to come on time if at all. We live on a main road and all the houses have names rather than numbers. I suspect that because of the number of parcels they are expected to deliver in a day, so they leave the difficult to find addresses until last.

Seconded. We used to get deliveries via an old bloke whose only fault was excessive chattiness. When he finally retired, the newer local delivery person has been less reliable.
However, the other day I sent two parcels via EVRI since theirs is the nearest drop-off point. When I got there, the collection fellow was scanning and loading his van. He wouldn't take my packets until they’d been scanned in the shop – and here was a queue at the till. Surprisingly, he came in after completing his load and waited for my packets to get processed so he could take them too.

The quality of the Evri service is almost completely down to the guy doing the delivery. Right now we have a superb chap and the Evri service is excellent. Pity that should a good man has to put up with the Evri conditions and pay, he deserves better.

I ordered 4 bottles of 3D printer resin and two 1kg rolls of fillament from Technology outlet based in Gwent yesterday. It was delivered by DPD at 7.40 this evening in Illogan Cornwall. DPD have not always been this good, it does depend on the driver I think.
