need to buy some ally plate 14''x14"x3/4" thick…..

Hi Clogs,

I bought some ally plate about 3 months ago from aluminiumwarehouse.co.uk (I'm not linked to them). The prices seem reasonable but they have a base rate delivery of about £15 to UK addresses. Depends on how much you buy as to whether the cost of delivery is justifiable.

Smithmetal.com has also been recommended recently in a couple of threads. I emailed them to ask about some 22mm brass bar and they never got back to me. It would appear they favor trade IMHO as I mentioned to them I was a private individual, not a company. But their prices also seemed reasonable, even more so if you can collect locally.

Depends on where you are and tolerances on dimensions – eg is 20mm ok. If you are going to MEX it could pay you to contact the traders who are going to be there and save a bundle on postage. Noggin End are accommodating on this as they like to take stuff they know they don't have to take back at the end of the show.

Hmm. I emailed Smith's a couple of days ago to ask for a quote for a metre of 1.5" brass bar, explaining I was non-trade, and they got back within the hour with a good price. Deffo worth a try I'd say if you've got a branch nearby and could collect.
