Having almost completed the refurbishment of an Allchin by W J Hughes, I have only just discovered that what I thought were roundhead rivets turned out to be shoulder bolts in steel threaded 5BA on the ends and fitted with 5BA steel nuts without washers. The bolts appear to be over long, should these be trimmed?
The person who sold me the engine informs me that his club members prefer this method as opposed to copper rivets as it allows dismantling if necessary.
Can members advise if they agree with this method of construction.
I may not steam this engine but wish it to be in steaming order.
