Now that air fryers have become the essential cooking appliance, I was wondering whether they are any good for hardening paint. Has anyone tried?  I’m sure my daughter won’t mind when she gets her Christmas present.

If you have one that goes down to 40C then I’m told by one of the regulars of the Gaugeone3Dcircle zoom calls that its proper purpose is drying PLA filament rolls.
I’m going to be looking at the January sales for a fryer or fruit dryer.

Are they any good for frying eggs?

Might be useful for dry heating of small components for “heat and freeze”techniques.

And cheaper than afull gas oven to run

Must intensify the programme to oersuade SWMBO to have one!

The smaller the better I’ve found, less heat loss and more reliable, we use a 1-2 person air fryer. They do fabby roast potatoes with almost no mess.

Another recent thing I’ve got is a microwave pan, you can get ridged or non ridged versions

6 mins in the microwave with some sausages, turn them, then 5 minutes more. No oil etc needed. Sausage sandwiches for lunch, easy to clean.

caveat on the microwave pan, get a good one, the “paint” coating needs to be 100% perfect or you will get arcing from exposed metal

High temperature paints typically need a cure at about 160 degrees, so small manifolds or engine blocks could find an air fryer as an ideal solution…

Do they go hot enough to be useful in tempering hardened steel?

                      A question to consider re air-fryers v. gas-ovens:

Is the air inside the air fryer dry by nature? I would expect that in a gas oven to be quite humid despite the temperature, from the combustion. This might matter if curing paint or adhesives, and the work is left to cool inside the oven.

[I’d heard an Air Fryer is a RAF padre…… I’ll get my overalls.]
