Has anyone on the forum got an Ainjest high speed threading attachment fitted to their lathe? I have one on my Harrison M300,but the table of settings for the thread selectors has been almost obliterated by having tools put on it duiring its previous life. Mine has 314m hand engrave on its makers plate, I assume that this is its model number, and has two selectors, one is numbered and the other has letters. If someone has or knows of somebody with the device I would be most gratefull if they could let me have a list of the settings. It must be the metric version as unfortunatly my Harrison is a metric machine, although I have been able to make it more useful by changing the Crosslide and Topslide feedscrew dials to dual reading versions.

          Hi Malcolm,

Sorry you haven't got a reply – I imagine this means no-one has the attachment. This reply will 'bump' your message so it may get a response.

Got two of these, one imperial, one metric but don't know if they have any plates on them. They are not fitted to machines but thrown in a big box somewhere.

              Malcolm,

I've got an Ainjest unit for my M300, but it is an imperial unit on an imperial lathe, so I'm not sure it'll be much use to you. I have manuals for the M300 and the Ainjest, but while they mention the metric unit they're a bit short on operating instructions. I'll have a further look tomorrow.

              Regards,

              Andrew

Hi Malcolm, I jut put Anijest high speed threading in google and got lots of results including this link

                **LINK**

Sounds an interesting piece of kit

                  John,

Thats the Metradial, different animal to the high speed threading attachment which is basically an extra set of half nuts in a housing that bolts on to the end of the apron.

This is the right link. **LINK**

I've reviewed my literature, and no help I'm afraid. The M300 manual has an exploded diagram of the unit, but no instructions. My Ainjest manual just says that the metric unit has a setting dial 0-4 but not 3, and a gear selector A-G; refer to the plate on the unit for details.

If you can't find somebody with a metric unit, then it's a case of ringing round suppliers in the hope that somebody has the information.

                    Regards,

                    Andrew

Dug mine out but both are missing the tin covers.

Did a search and there are actually two on Ebay at the moment, one imperial, one metric [ no connection to either ] but the metric one, which is complete doesn't have a chart on it.

I'm now wondering if the original poster is talking about the Mertradial but he's made one post and not bothered even replying.

May be the chart is specific to the M300 version. My M300 manual clearly shows a chart on the top of the unit. The generic Ainjest manual I have also refers to a chart on the metric unit. Sadly neither bother to actually reproduce the chart.

As an aside I haven't quite worked out yet why the metric version, for use on a metric lathe, should need to be so much more complex that the imperial version. After all there's no imperial/metric conversion needed. May be imperial with TPI is a more logical system than metric with pitch. wink

                        Regards,

                        Andrew

Andrew, The metric one is far more complex.

Because with a metric thread dial you have different pinions on the metric ainjest you have a cluster of gears that match up to the numbers on the selector.

I gather this is what the chart relates to.

Will the person who contacted me over the metric ainjest please contact me via email at john [at] stevenson-engineers.co.uk as i have lost the contact details.

                            many thanks. John S.
