AEW Vertical Mill

Good evening,

I recently acquired a AEW vertical mill.  I wish to check/change the back-gear oil. I believe this is separate to the vertical head oil.  I’m guessing the weeping allen screw may be the drain.  I’m loath to undo the set screw above, but it looks like a contender for the fill point.  Can anyone please confirm?  Many thanks.

Hi John,

I have a Viceroy vertical mill, the spare parts diagram shows a drain plug in that vicinity, strangely it shows no fill plug, suggesting that the box gets its oil from the head, but the diagram shows several oil seals so maybe it doesn’t, if you pm me I will email you the pdfs I have for the spare parts book and the instruction manual
