For various reasons I make only reasonably simple/easy items and am now to make the tool grinding jig by Bob Margolis in issue 59.

My problem is finding a company that will cut pieces of plate (3mm BMS) for hobby engineers.
I would be most grateful for any suggestions.

Have made Brian Wood's brackets etc and can now cut metric threads on my Super 7B and also made the spindle handle -very useful for thread cutting.

      Many thanks

      Richard.

            Richard 2,

Always a good idea to at least give an idea where you are in a post or preferably in your Public Profile. Some of us have access to guillotines and may well be able to help.

              I second that.

Thank you for the link to M-Machine. I have saved it specially because, given the very general title of this thread I doubt if I would find it again once it has become buried.

Just in case you run into any pedants, 3mm BMS is properly "sheet" I believe rather than plate.

It is not clear if you have some material already that you want someone else to cut or just wish to buy some stock or whether you want to buy ready cut pieces or finally you want to buy it ready cut to specific shapes (profiled).

Most laser cutters will do it, Someone like Lasermaster will do basic shapes via their site or e-mail a drawing for more intricate things, they did some 3mm plate for me a couple on months ago.

Or most of teh ME suppliers will do a 300mm square of plate, you just supply the hacksawwink 2

I use ebay for most of my metal purchase, most are very reasonable prices and quick delivery.

Reeves 2000 will cut you (rectangular) pieces of 3mm plate. They often have useful offcuts out front too.

I tend to beg offcuts of metal plate from a flame cutting lumsden grinding outfit I bought steel off prior to retirement. There is a fabrication place recently opened not far from me so I will give them a couple of months then knock on the door and ask if I can buy the scrap stuff. Most places will then give you small quantities.

An angle grinder with a thin cutting disc would cut straight pieces quickly. Colin

Just to say many thanks to everyone.

M-Machine were very helpful and easy to talk to.

So the metal I required cut to size is on it's way!

And I have found two more projects so more

                              metal will be ordered.

Great forum and wonderful people who can be

bothered in this day and age to help someone.
