I have been sent an E- Mail from an organisation I worked with years ago, inviting me to the Farnborough Air Show, The link on the mail is not highlighted in blue and therefore will not open to allow me to print the ticket.

Is their a way of highlighting the relevant address from my PC?

I may be missing the point, Keith … but it sounds like you could just copy the inactive link and paste it into your browser.

Clearly it would not be wise to share the text here !

        .

Edit: __ I would imagine it’s simply a matter of the sender’s eMall having  ‘plain text’ settings.

Yes, click to the immediate left of the required text and then drag right to the end of it. This will highlight that portion of text. Select “copy” from the menu and then “paste” into your preferred browser address bar and hit enter.

Presumably then … The sender got it wrong

Clearly something is odd. I have put the address in letter by letter, checked and re checked and get the same blank page back. E mail is not failing it,so it is not a dud address. Trouble is that it is issued by Farnborough ticket office and not the people who invited me.

Could well explain why it has not come up as an active link and therefore not in blue.

You say e-mail is not failing it. Is the link an email address or a web site address? email errors may be some upper case or a zero and letter O mixed up. Website is usually :// not right if the wording seems OK

                    Hi Jason,

The address is an :// type. I have managed to connect to the people who sent the invitation and they are to try to get it re-issued. Fingers crossed!

For those interested in this saga. I have solved the problem and now have a printed ticket.

Farnborough ticket people had a couple of attempts at re sending the page, but it still did not work.  I then had a rush of blood to my head and remembered that I was meeting an old collegue there and his invite had worked OK. I then mailed him, suggesting he forward me his invite, which he did, and low and behold, the link was blue and worked for me.

                      Thanks all for the suggestions.

                      Keith.

Let’s just hope the tickets are not numbered in some way (bar code?) or whoever gets there second might have some explaining to do

You may be correct there, Duncan. Since I sorted the ticket, Farnborough have finally sent me a link that works,so now that you have given me some doubts, I will also print out my version

                          Keith.

I find this quite curious. Whilst hot links are obviously very convenient I have to date not found any difference between one and simply using the text within it to access a website. Is there some kind of invisible data in a hot link that’s not present in plain text with the same address? If so I wonder why I’ve not experienced it, that I can remember?

Edit: I’m guessing there may indeed be something in some hot links for security reasons. As in this ticket issue?

What is now very odd is that the original mail, with the the link that was not highlighted blue, has now turned blue!

                              Keith.

Showing urls as clickable links (blue) or as plain text is a function of your email client as far as I’m aware (and may even be configurable in that respect**). The client may perhaps have been busy initially and therefore slow to highlight the link or perhaps has a bug that shows up occasionally?

** some organizations prefer not to have urls received in incoming mail too readily accessible to their employees for obvious reasons.

Michael. Rather than send you a PM: I find your input on this site very helpful at times. Have you considered adding an avatar to your account so we can more readily see your participation? Just a thought, hope it doesn’t offend!

I had a  avatar on the old site, Vic but … having so frequently considered leaving this new version … I haven’t bothered yet.

Now you’ve prompted me, and the site is reasonably usable,  I will find something suitable.
